Bryan-College Station, often called "Aggieland" or BCS, sits in the Brazos Valley and is home to Texas A&M University. The twin cities mix small-town charm with the jobs, sports and culture of a major university town.

Know the student calendar

With Texas A&M in town, many leases run on the school year, with move-ins in August. Homes near campus often pre-lease months ahead, so if you want to move in late summer, start looking in the spring. If you're not tied to the school calendar, you'll usually find more choices and better deals in the fall and winter.

Popular areas for renters

  • Northgate and Southside: walkable to campus and popular with students
  • Wolf Pen Creek and Harvey Road: close to shopping, dining and Texas A&M
  • Southwood Valley, Castlegate and south College Station: quieter neighborhoods, popular with families
  • Downtown Bryan: historic charm, local restaurants and events
  • Traditions and west Bryan: newer homes, close to the Texas A&M RELLIS and Health Science Center areas

Major employers

Texas A&M University, CHI St. Joseph Health, Baylor Scott & White, Bryan ISD, College Station ISD, the cities of Bryan and College Station, and H-E-B.

Things to do

Aggie football at Kyle Field, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, First Friday in Downtown Bryan, the Texas Reds Steak & Grape Festival, the Brazos Valley Fair & Rodeo and Santa's Wonderland.

My local tips

  • Read lease terms carefully. Student-style leases may be "by the bed," with each roommate on a separate lease.
  • Expect higher demand and prices on football weekends and around move-in week.
  • Every adult on the lease usually applies separately, and many student renters need a parent as a guarantor.
