Photoshoot Day: Getting Your Home Ready
Professional photos are your home's first showing. Most buyers see your listing online before they ever step inside, so a little prep before photo day makes a big difference. Use this checklist the day before and the morning of your photoshoot.
Lights, bulbs and screens
- Turn on all lights, including small lamps
- Replace burned-out or mismatched bulbs so every room has the same color light
- Turn off all TVs, computer screens and projectors
Declutter personal items
- Clear everything off kitchen counters and islands (yes, that too)
- Clear personal items from tables, mantels, dressers and desks
- Remove toiletries and small appliances from bathroom counters, tubs and showers
- Pick up rugs and mats, including doormats and bath mats
Stop the motion
- Keep pets in the garage, a kennel or away from home during the appointment
- Turn off ceiling fans at least 5 minutes before the photographer arrives
Keep curb appeal focused
- Move vehicles out of sight
- Mow and edge the lawn, and trim the landscaping
- Clear leaves and debris
- Remove yard signs, including security, school and decor signs
Outdoor details
- Clean the pool and put away pool toys
- Arrange outdoor furniture, and open any patio umbrella
- Put away hoses, toys, cleaning supplies and recycling bins
- Clean the driveway and paths, power washing if you can
- Remove or minimize window and pool screens if possible
